Resistant Adhesive Vinyl Murals Applied to Lightweight Alumalite
On Boylston Street in downtown Boston, Emerson College
is in the preliminary stages of building a new dormitory and student
center. The 100-foot chain link construction fence that runs across
the site had been covered by a vinyl mesh fabric that was translucent,
difficult to maintain and subject to vandalism.
Emerson College called on DGI-Invisuals to create something more attractive
to replace the vinyl mesh. The College had three requirements: The
material needed to weather the outdoors for at least 2 years; it needed
to be graffiti resistant; and it needed to display very large color
images of their campus boldly and consistently.
DGI-Invisuals recommended a process that fulfilled all of these objectives.
Using our Arizona printer and UV inks, DGI-Invisuals produced 3M Scotchprint
RG-180 adhesive vinyl murals adding a protective graffiti resistant
lamination to the face. These Scotchprint murals were then applied
to a lightweight Alumalite substrate that was then fastened to the
existing fence structure.
The end result was a lightweight, sturdy, temporary fence facade that
temporarily shields passers-by from the developing construction site
while making an attractive visual statement about the College's plans
for the future.
